At last Friday’s assembly, Dr Wakeman from the College Council, presented an Honours tie to the Rector, Mr Ken MacLeod. This was in acknowledgement of more than 10 years’ service leading the College as Rector and having had a significant influence on the on-going development of the College and significant successes in Academic, Cultural, Sporting and Christian Dimensions. Among other things he noted that he had been here longer than any of the boys and was always at the various events of the College supporting boys as they played, performed and worshiped as well as leading a large organisation.
This is a very special award given to Old Boys, Staff and contributors of the College. There have only ever been around 50 awarded and so it is a rare honour. It is presented to Old Boys who make a significant contribution to New Zealand Society and he noted examples include Graeme Mallaghan of the Mallaghan Institute, a leading Medical Science and Research Centre, Justice Joe Williams and some sports men such as Taine Randell (All Black Captain). Some who have contributed to the College Council, Parents and Friends Association and LCOBA also receive the award along with long serving staff usually who have taught for a minimum of 20 years. The presentation was followed by a rousing Haka from the boys in honour of the Rector.
