The Te Whāiti-nui-Ā-toi Scholarship scheme has played an important part in the development of Lindisfarne College and in providing educational opportunities for Māori young men.  Lindisfarne's history with Te Whāiti-nui-Ā-toi has been going since 1975, under the partnership of our council chairman of the time John Wakeman. Named after the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa NZ, made towards the education of Maori boys in the 1970’s and 80’s. In a more restricted sense it provided an educational service to that particular group of Māori people with whom the Church has been most closely associated -The Tuhoe people of the Eastern Bay of Plenty and Urewera Country. In the last 20 years the scheme has broadened and has seen boys from other Iwi supported by the scheme.
