Cultural Enrichment
Our cultural programme is designed to expose the boys to a rich tapestry of cultural activities where they are free to discover their hidden talents and interests in a boys-only environment.

All junior students study Music, Visual Arts, Technology, Languages and Oral Communication and many are inspired to explore further cultural possibilities and arts subjects in our extensive senior curriculum.

We develop passion, talent and excellence across the arts, enhancing your son’s education with a rich tapestry of cultural activities. Lindisfarne encourages students to participate in many different cultural activities from art, music and performance to Kapa Haka, debating and drama. Music is strongly supported by talented music teachers who encourage the creative flair of students. There are also many extra-curricular activities in which students can show off their dramatic talents, including an annual production which is often in partnership with our sister school Iona College and local school Woodford House.

The Performing Arts

The Performing Arts programme is well established and provides numerous opportunities for students to enjoy and share their many talents.

Our strengths are diverse, with over 16 different kinds of bands or ensemble groups we have  a comprehensive range of groups including the training band for beginner musicians to the concert and gold award-winning Concord Symphonic band to pipes and drums.  We are equally represented in speech, drama and stage performances which grow in popularity each year.

Many other smaller ensembles are catered for and we proudly feature our Pipe Band on many occasions.

Our College is well-resourced to support these endeavours with a purpose-built auditorium and specialist staff providing the launching pad for student success, handling over 140 students for individual itinerant lessons as well as music classes within the curriculum.

Recognising Achievement

Recognition is celebrated in a number of different ways during the year culminating in our annual Arts and Cultural Awards Dinner.

Cultural Colours are awarded to students who in a single chosen field of endeavour have;

  • shown excellence in performance, skill and technique often leading to recognition in the arts or cultural activities at National or Provincial level
  • performed at a consistently high level throughout the year
  • shown unselfish dedication and commitment as well as a sincere and positive contribution
  • as a senior member of the College acted as a role model to all others.

    Kapa haka and the prestigious Manu Kōrero speech competition are other kaupapa māori we cater for, here the boys will always prepare and perform with passion and pride. Success on both stages have been a highlight with Kapa Haka making Nationals for the first time in the school’s history in 2019 and boys consistently placing at the Manu Kōrero Competition.
