"Being at Lindisfarne has given me the opportunity to develop as a leader in diverse areas. The school is supportive of you, whatever path you choose.  I have also loved our traditional exchanges as I have made friends and contacts all over the country."

SPORTING ENDEAVOUR

Sporting activity compliment the academic, cultural and spiritual dimensions of well-balanced young men.

Our programme fosters learning beyond the classroom, building life skills, confidence and essential qualities that boys require beyond their secondary school years.

Our point of difference from other schools is that all of our sports teams have a teacher aligned to them, either as coach or manager.  This not only shows how committed our staff are to building all-round character, but also proves that our staff recognise that relationship building is vital between student and teacher.

Each year, our young sportsmen enjoy considerable success in regional and national competitions in both team and individual sports. All of our top sports teams in the major codes play in Hawke's Bay secondary school and Hawke's Bay senior men's competitions.

Through team and individual sports, lifelong qualities of resilience, persistence, loyalty, sportmanship, leadership and fair play are learned.

Sport is an essential part of student development at the College with participation in both summer and winter sport an integral part of school life. Students can choose a sport that interests them from a range of different options, which cater for different athletic abilities.

Each year our young sportsmen enjoy considerable success in regional and national competitions. All of our top sports teams consistently perform well and add to the pride the boys feel as members of the College.

Our Facilities

We have top-class sporting facilities at the College, including a large gymnasium, health and fitness training facility, over 12ha of training and playing fields, an all- weather floodlit multi-sports area, 25m outdoor swimming pool and 2.4km fitness course.

The College also has access to the nearby Hawke's Bay Regional Sports Park which has a world-class athletics track, designated sports fields and a hockey stadium with Tier 1 standard hockey turf.

Scholarships

Every year Lindisfarne College offers a number of sports scholarships to students in Year 9, or at the Rector's discretion in exceptional circumstances. These rewards are reviewed annually to ensure that the highest standards of College sport are upheld.

Exchanges, Fixtures & Tours

Traditional sports exchanges against Scots College, Rathkeale College, Wanganui Collegiate and St Paul's Collegiate are highlights of the sporting calendar, all year round. Lindisfarne sports teams tour many different countries including the USA, UK, China, Sri Lanka and Australia and we also host international touring teams. These fixtures and tours provide opportunities for team building, personal growth and memorable life experiences over and above the challenges of sport itself.

Sporting Achievements

The College recognises individual and team sporting achievements at all levels throughout the year, whether competing for Lindisfarne College or for performances outside the College. Recognition is celebrated in a number of different ways: at weekly assemblies; on sports achievement boards; at the annual Sports Awards Dinner; with a photo in the Long Room or Sports Colours; and, for those who have represented New Zealand, with a Silver Fern for their blazer.
