Bible Reading:
Our Bible Reading today comes from the Old Testament book of Micah and asks the question – What does God want from us.
It will be read by Head of School, Charlie Dods
Thanks Charlie.
Rectors Comments:
It’s been a busy start to the year already and we look forward to getting into the routine of the year after the long Waitangi weekend. A day and weekend when we should reflect on the bicultural partnership between Maori and Europeans enshrined in the Treaty. It’s a reminder of the importance of community and partnership, and how communities develop successfully when there is integrity, respect and kindness in our dealings with others. It’s the same here at the College.
We welcome some new staff to the College and I will briefly introduce them to you by asking them to stand.
Mr Beecroft (Technology – ex NGHS)
Ms Chapman (T1 for Mr Bramley -sabbatical Maths)
Mrs Clarke (ESOL – Kristen School in Auckland)
Ms Davis (Sciences – ex HBHS)
Rev. Dunnett (Chaplain – from Johannesburg in SA)
Mr Parker (English/SS/RE – ex Saint Kentigern College)
Mr Robertshaw (Sciences – ex Wairoa)
Mrs Selfe (T1 for Sarah Duncan on sabbatical - English)
Mrs Toomey (GAP Teacher PT)
Please welcome these staff to our college.
There are also some other new staff you will see our new Chef Mr Cornforth, and Mrs Harvey (admin team in area of admissions).
Today we celebrate and acknowledge those who found success in their NCEA examinations at the end of last year. Once again as a College our results were well above national averages and well above Decile 8-10 schools. Most noticeably we had a 100% pass rate at Level 2 last year – an exceptional result.
A significant number of boys will come across the stage today and each and every one of them deserves our respect and appropriate congratulations.
For those of you in Years 7-10 I trust that you will see this success and determine, through the consistent hard work that is required for success, that you too will in time, also gain an academic tie, Rectors citation, Colours or Centurian awards for your achievements.

Well done boys and thank you, Mr Barry
HYMN: Guide Me o Thou Great Jehovah
Today we also present ties to our full school prefects.
Prefects are chosen for specific leadership roles in the College. But you don’t have to be a prefect to lead. All our Year 12 &13 students are expected to lead by example, by upholding the expectations of how we do things here and to so in a humble and respectful way.
To be a leader is to serve others, to place the interests of others first. A title or a badge means nothing – it is what you do that really counts.
Our full school prefects do have expectations placed on them and have extra service roles to complete. In recognition they receive a prefect’s tie that we present today. These boys have my support and that of the staff. They need your support and help too and I expect you to expect much from them, but also offer your support and help them whenever you can.
Mr Howlett will read the names of the prefects and if they can come forward now,
Prefects for 2020
Head of School Charlie Dods
Deputy Head Boy Finn Calder
Head of Boarding George Charteris
Year 7&8 Prefect Ashton Guy
Year 7&8 Prefect Archie Mawley

Cultural Prefect James Ashby* (absent in France)

Chapel and Service Prefect John Aarons
Chapel and Service Prefect Andrew McLennan
Sports Prefect Harry Stevenson
Sports Prefect Cole Scott
Prefects continued…

Thank you boys and Mr Howlett.
Final comments:
Well we are almost to the end of our first, albeit shortened, week of the term. Well done on a positive start and on welcoming the new students to the College.
Enjoy the short break and we look forward to getting down to the routines and activities of the College next week.
Our Chaplain, Rev Dunnett, will close our assembly in prayer
Please stand.
