Citation: Matt McKendry competed in the 2025 Canoe Sprint Nationals against the country’s top paddlers. Matt, competing in the Under-18 category claimed three national titles, winning gold in the U18 men’s K4 500m, K4 200m, and 100m Relay events. | |
Swimming | Sam Skidmore |
Citation: At the New Zealand Age Group Championships, in a the highly competitive 15-year-old age group, Sam Skidmore, won Gold in both the 100m Fly and 50m Fly. At the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships, Sam won gold in the Open 50m & 200m Freestyle events. | |
Indoor Cricket | Andrew Wakefield |
Citation: Andrew Wakefield represented the Central Districts U17 team at the New Zealand Inter-Provincials earlier this year and his team topped the group in the round robin stage before beating Wellington in the final to take the U17 trophy. Andrew also represented the Central Districts U22 team, and they beat Auckland in the final as well. | |
Indoor Cricket | Thomas Raggett |
Citation: Thomas Raggett represented the Central Districts U17 team at the New Zealand Inter-Provincials earlier this year and his team topped the group in the round robin stage before beating Wellington in the final to take the U17 trophy. | |
Cyclo-Cross | Noah Hemmingson |
Citation: Noah Hemmingson raced in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cyclo Cross Championships winning the under 20 race category. | |
Boxing | Austin McDougall |
Citation: Ranked No.1 in the Youth 90kg Division leading into the New Zealand Championships, Austin won the 90kg Youth Heavyweight Division. Austin was up against the 2025 North Island Golden Gloves Champion in the semi-final, winning with a 4-1 Split decision. The final was won on a 4-1 split decision making it a comfortable victory. | |
Golf | Luke Jarvis |
Citation: Luke then headed to Wellington to represent Hawkes Bay at the New Zealand Eagles National U17 Championships, which took place at the Boulcotts Farm Heritage Golf Club on the 23- 24 September. Luke shot rounds of 72,71 and finished 1st in the boys Under 17 Stableford and 3rd equal in the Boys Under 17 Gross.
Luke teamed up with Ruby Jarvis and Devon Henare for the Teams event, which saw strong competition from 15 provinces. Luke played outstanding golf over the two days, ultimately winning the Teams event. This is the first time a Hawkes Bay team has won this event.

Citation: At the Regional Fish & Game, North Island and National Skeet championships, in the New Zealand Single Barrel event, Oscar Von Dadelszen placed 1st in the Junior category.

Citation: Oliver Wilkins won the New Zealand National Championships for U16's again this year having won the title in 2024 as well. Oliver competed in races throughout New Zealand throughout the year winning multiple titles. | |

Citation: Riley Burley competed in the 2025 BMXNZ National Series held in Invercargill with a view to improving his plate ranking for under 16 boys. He placed #NZ5 in New Zealand—a fantastic achievement! On the back of this performance, he was selected to represent New Zealand in competition. | |
Boxing | Austin McDougall |
Citation: Austin represented New Zealand against Australia and Fiji this year. On the back of his performance at the New Zealand Boxing Championships, Austin was re-selected for the New Zealand youth development squad and will represent New Zealand against an Australian invitational team in Wellington later this month. | |
Kayaking/Canoe Sprint | Matt McKendry |
Citation: Matt McKendry represented New Zealand in kayaking at the Asia Pacific Sprint Cup in Japan. Matt claimed a gold medal in the junior 200m relay, adding an international gold to his medal tally. Matt McKendry competed at the New Zealand Canoe Racing Sprint Regatta in Rotorua, achieving outstanding results. Matt won two golds in the U18 K4 events and as a result, Matt was selected for the New Zealand Junior World Championships in Portugal and also represented the Junior New Zealand team at the Asia Pacific Championships in Japan.

Sailing | Jake Dickey |
Citation: In sailing, Jake Dickey returned from his trip to the Opti Worlds in Slovenia having achieved significant success. He sailed in a pre-world’s regatta, and there were two training camps in preparation for the worlds event that included 287 sailors from 66 countries. Having qualified in 11th position and cementing his place in the Gold Fleet for the finals, Jake managed to hang onto a top 30 result in challenging conditions to place 29th overall after eight days of racing. Jake also won a race in qualifying, something that has not been achieved for almost two decades by a New Zealand sailor. | |
Skiing | Oliver Wilkins |
Citation: Oliver was selected in the New Zealand Youth Alpine Ski team, and this gave him the right to compete in three International Alpine Ski events in Europe. In Slovakia, he was overall 7th in the U16 age group. In Andorra: 11th in Slalom and 15th in Slalom. In Folgaria, Italy: Overall Oliver was 5th in the U16 age group. He was recently selected for the New Zealand Alpine Youth Squad and will compete overseas in international races during January, February and early March 2026. | |
Rugby | Noah Rogers |
Citation: In exciting news, we were delighted to confirm that Noah Rogers was named in the New Zealand Secondary Schools U18 rugby team. Noah becomes the first player to be selected for this team since Israel Dagg and Mason Emerson. He travelled to Australia in September and started against Australia in the second game on tour. | |
