Lindisfarne College appoints new Rector - Mr Craig Hardman

The Lindisfarne College Council is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Craig Hardman as the next Rector of Lindisfarne College, commencing in 2026.

Mr Hardman is currently the Associate Headmaster (School Operations) at St Paul’s Collegiate School in Hamilton, where he has held a range of senior leadership positions including Acting Headmaster, Deputy Headmaster (Pastoral), and Boarding Housemaster. With more than 16 years of leadership experience, he brings a deep understanding of both day and boarding school life and is highly regarded for his ability to lead with integrity, clarity, and care.

College Council Chair Sharon Wards said the appointment followed a rigorous national search process conducted in partnership with Sheffield Search.

“We were fortunate to have a strong field of candidates, and the process was both comprehensive and robust,” said Mrs Wards. “Craig stood out as a proven and values-driven leader who can both honour Lindisfarne’s proud traditions and guide the College confidently into the future. He has demonstrated the ability to lead through complexity and change, and his future-focused approach will ensure our boys are well prepared for an ever-evolving world.”

Mr Hardman said he was honoured to be appointed as the next Rector and excited to join the Lindisfarne community.

“It is an absolute privilege to have the opportunity to lead a school that is both a proud boarding school and a place of rich tradition and strong values,” said Mr Hardman. “As we look to the future, I am excited to work alongside Lindisfarne’s exceptional staff and talented young men to continue building on the legacy of those who have gone before us. At the heart of everything are the relationships with our students, connections that inspire confidence, nurture growth, and empower them to be the best they can be.”

Mr Hardman’s leadership experience is complemented by extensive professional development, including the ISNZ Aspiring Principals Programme, training with the Institute of Directors and PwC, and study visits to leading schools in New Zealand and Australia. His work across curriculum design, pastoral care, and staff development demonstrates a strong alignment with Lindisfarne’s focus on character, academic excellence, and service.

He will take over from Mr Stuart Hakeney, who has served as Rector since 2020. Under his leadership, the College has seen continued growth in academic, cultural, and sporting achievement, and further strengthening of the boarding and day school connection. Mr Hakeney will return to Hamilton Boys’ High School in 2026 to take up a senior leadership position.

Mrs Wards said the College Council was deeply grateful for Stuart’s leadership and service.

“Stuart has been an outstanding Rector who has led with warmth, vision, and a genuine commitment to the development of young men of character. We wish him every success as he returns to Hamilton Boys’ High School and thank him for all he has contributed to Lindisfarne College.”

Mr Hardman will officially commence his tenure as Rector at the beginning of 2026.
