Assembly Notes - 12.11.21 (Senior Colours Assembly)

Good afternoon School. Please be seated.

I’d like to invite Tino Savea to deliver today’s reading

Today’s reading comes from Colossians 3, Chapters 23-25

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favouritism.

This is the word of the lord

Thank you, Tino.

Rectors Comments:

Today we present our Academic Colours to Yr 13 along with our Sporting and Cultural Colours to all students who have earned them this year. The Academic colours recognise those boys who have achieved outstanding marks in the academic cornerstone in their final year of school. Over the last few weekends I’ve had the pleasure of reading all Year 13 reports and I’ve had the opportunity to add my own comment to the Deans’ remarks. The achievements of the vast majority of our year 13 have been quite outstanding this year. Many have already passed NCEA Level 3, often with Merit and Excellence and most have either achieved or are on track to achieve University Entrance. Many are sitting NZ Scholarships in a few weeks, the most challenging secondary schools examinations in New Zealand. Today is a chance to recognise those young men who have excelled in the classroom. Lindisfarne colours are very special and to earn your colours you have to genuinely excel in your chosen field.

The Academic colours that Mr Barry will read out are based on scholastic performance and he will read out what levels of achievement each student has achieved.

Sporting and Cultural colours are based on performance and commitment in the relevant cornerstones. To achieve these colours you have to be excelling in terms of your ability, performance, and dedication. Staff members have to be satisfied that the level of performance is such that it deserves this special Lindisfarne College recognition. When Mr MacAleese and Dr Kristensen read out the various achievements of our recipient it will be obvious why these young men have earned their colours.

For all of you who come up here today and receive your awards, please think about who you need to thank for helping you realise your goals. Perhaps your parents who got up early to bring you to school for a practice or who worked long hours so that you could attend a tournament. Or a friend who studied with you for benchmark exams. Your teachers, coaches and manager would have played a huge role in helping you achieve this success, so if you haven’t thanked them yet, make sure you do that.

I am going to keep my talk brief today boys because we have a lot to get through, but I want to remind you that whilst you are within touching distance of the last days of Term 4, the race is not yet run. We have three school days to go next week before you embark on your study leave and begin your NCEA exams. Please continue to make good, responsible decisions as individuals and in groups. Continue to behave according to our values. Be kind and respectful and have the courage to say and do the right thing. The end of the year should be a celebration and it only takes one poor decision to spoil all the good work you have done up to this point. Honour your teachers and your College by ending on the right note.

Next Wednesday is Snr Prizegiving. If you have issues to sort out regarding hair and uniform, please get them sorted so that we are all looking our very best.

It’s been a little while since we’ve sung together, so it will be great to hear the senior school in full voice today as we count down to our final days together.

Please join with me in singing the hymn I Vow to Thee My Country.

HYMN

Thank you, please be seated.

We continue our assembly today with Mr Barry reading out our Yr 13 Academic colours recipients for 2021.
