So what constitutes a ‘Lindisfarne man’? Our boys are certainly not of a single type, with diversity of thought and culture always one of our main concerns. But there are common threads. A focus on community is important. The boys know it is not just about ‘me’, and that you have to contribute. Kindness and empathy are paramount, including caring about others and being open to see the world from new perspectives. Then there’s a sense of optimism, feeling alive, hopeful about the future, and able to adapt. And a deep-seated resilience, so that when life inevitably throws up hurdles, they’re ready for them.

There’s no shame in admitting that teaching boys, and helping them learn, requires a special sort of understanding. Boys, in general, need strong guidelines, moral certitude, academic guidance, and physical outlets to build skills, confidence and get rid of all that energy in a positive way!
