FOOTBALL
· 1st XI – won 3-1 vs HBHS. The season so far hasn’t always gone according to plan leading at top of the table Havelock to eventually lose and leading to second place Napier boys to eventually lose but in this game the boys really stood up and showed what a class outfit we really are by beating third placed Hastings, 3-1. The sheer fight and will from each player really pulled us through to the final whistle and it was truly a team performance to be proud of goals 1 by Lovepreet Padda who has 5 for the season 1 by Charlie Bayly and 1 by Brendon Joe. Congratulations to year 10 Noah Schmith for making his 1st XI debut.
· 2ndXI – won 3-2 vs NBHS. Goals to Lachlan Roberts, Ben Barker and Oliver Hind. The team played awesome football against quality opposition who were leading the league. All players deserve credit for their effort and commitment.
· 3rdXI – narrow loss vs HNHS 6-7
· Junior A draw 2-2
· Junior B won 5-1 vs THS
RUGBY
· 1stXV played St Johns (Hamilton) on Saturday up in Hamilton. They started well with a couple early tries but St Johns bounced back and scored off a set piece. There were patches of the game that went on without any points scored and was played at a high pace. In the end the boys defence held them out and we got the win. Man of the match went to Ben Gibbs who was playing out of position at lock but had a strong game in the lineouts and defensively. Fulltime: 36-10
Tries: Reece Akuhata, Charlie Dods, Ben Gibbs, Harry Mowat, James Buckeridge, Kings Tupuola. Con: George Twigley (3/6)
· D grade on Saturday vs St Johns won 33-12. It was a very good game against an athletic and bigger team. Great backline work built on lineout and scrum superiority. Great individual try by Adam Akuhata.
· 3rd XV vs Te Aute College. 17 all draw
The team played well and dominated the first half of play in terms of both possession and territory. The forwards set a strong platform, allowing the back to spread the ball and giving the outside backs heaps of good ball. After an injury just prior to half time, the game was shifted to the field next door, and the game became much more of an arm wrestle, finally ending in a draw. Player of the day was Michael Unwin, but he was well supported in the pack by Henry Roil and Te Mana Po Meihana who toiled all day. In the backs Tom Goodison and Henry Brassell directed traffic well from the base, while George Newman and Louis Sherwood broke the game open with their elusive running. James Cairns also carried well after only a couple of games and Cooper McDougal played well in his first game.
· Well done to the boys selected for trial #2 for the HB U16 team:
