Kia ora, School. Please be seated.
I’d like to invite Gordy Chatfield Head of Durham House, to deliver today’s reading.
Colossians 3 verses 12-14
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
This is the word of the Lord (thanks be to God)
Rectors Comments:
Yesterday, we gathered not just in solidarity but in celebration. We came together to embrace a powerful message that resonates far beyond the fabric of the clothing we wore. We came together as a College to recognise Pink Shirt Day, a day that symbolises unity, compassion, and the strength of kindness.
In a world often marked by division and conflict, Pink Shirt Day stands as a beacon of hope, reminding us of the transformative power of empathy and understanding. It calls upon us to reject intolerance and embrace acceptance, to stand up against bullying and discrimination in all its forms.
The theme of this year's Pink Shirt Day, "All Kinds of Kindness," speaks volumes. It reminds us that kindness knows no bounds, that it comes in all shapes and sizes, and that every act of kindness, no matter how small, contributes to building inclusive communities.
Kindness is not just a word; it should be a way of life for all of us. The simple gesture of lending a helping hand, the warm smile shared with a stranger, the compassionate ear offered to someone in need, are all things that we are all capable of giving. Kindness is about seeing beyond our differences and recognising the humanity that unites us all.
As we wore our pink yesterday, it was not only a fashion statement but more importantly it was a statement of our commitment to kindness. So let us pledge from today onwards, to be agents of change, to spread kindness wherever we go, and to stand up for those who may not have a voice or who are afraid to use their voice.
In promoting all kinds of kindness, we not only make our college community stronger, but we also create a ripple effect that can reach far beyond our immediate surroundings. We have the power to inspire others to embrace kindness, to foster compassion, and to build, a world where everyone feels valued and respected.
I hope that you wore your pink with pride yesterday, knowing that you are part of a movement that is changing lives, one act of kindness at a time. Together, let us continue to promote kindness, compassion, and understanding, for it is through these virtues that we truly build an inclusive college community where everyone belongs.
Please join me in sing our school song.

Arts and Cultural Report
Debating It has been a busy couple of weeks in the debating area of the school with debates against Woodford House, Iona College, and Havelock North High School. A couple of wins and a few loses means the students are seeing where to hone their skills and develop their confidence further. A number of students have already seen where they can focus for the next round of debates at the end of the term.
National Youth Drama School Recently academic prefect Philip Larkin attended the National Youth Drama School, commonly known as NYDS. Philip took part in the Improv Comedy course and learned a lot from this great experience, enjoying spending time with a lot of other drama and music students. Well done on taking the initiative to get involved with this.
Josef Oosthuizen Year 12 student Josef Oosthuizen recently performed in the Napier Operatic Society musical production of Fiddler on the Roof. Josef was the Fiddler himself performing on the violin and acting. This was a highly successful and demanding show, with over 10 performances in total. Congratulations Josef.
House Music This year’s House Music competition will take place on the last day of Term 2. This year the format will be slightly different: each House will sing two full-house songs: one is the song He Honore, and the other song will be own-choice song for the full House. There will be no Ensemble Choir section this year. The other sections will be the same. These are: the rock/pop band; instrumental ensemble; and solo section. Rehearsals will begin in the second half of term 2, so start preparing now for this.
Smokefree Rockquest Tomorrow, Saturday 18th May, is the East Coast Rock quest competition held at Toi Toi/ the Hastings Opera House. The Lindisfarne College band Obstruktion, made up of Liam King, Johnson Blakely, Tait Humphreys, and Dominic Goodenough will be performing their original song between 3 – 4pm. Come along and support the boys this Saturday if you can. All the best to them!
Artist and Musician of the Month of May. This month’s artist of the month goes to James Reid for his excellent ZINE design.
The musician of the month goes to Edward Harvey for his outstanding consistency of performance and organisation in the Chapel, symphonic, and jazz bands, and support of the Training Band. Congratulations to both of these boys.
Can these boys please come forward to receive their certificate.
Rector comments:

I would like to welcome Sports Prefect, Finn Reid, to present this week's sports report.

Our Senior A team had a strong start to their season posting a strong 99-51 win against their opposition.
In Football Our 1st XI Football team kicked off their season last Friday. Defending their Hawkes Bay title from 2023 the squad started with a solid 3-1 win over Havelock North High School.
In other Football games our 2nd XI had a close 2-1 win over Central Hawkes Bay 1st XI, the 3rd XI competed with the Karamu 1st XI eventually going down 0-2. The Junior A’s fought hard for a 2-2 draw vs St Johns
In Hockey On Tuesday the intermediate 1st XI team defeated Taikura Rudolph Steiner 3 goals to zero. Strong defence in the first half from Robbie Logan and Kaval Munjal allowed the forwards to launch attacks on the opposition goal.
On Wednesday night our 1st XI Hockey team played a thrilling game of hockey vs Hastings Boys High School. Jacob Holder provided highlights with his ability to carry and eliminate through the midfield, Hamish Butler was hardworking, and George Kenny was very solid at the back. Lindisfarne eventually won 4 goals to 2. Jacob Holder scoring two, Hamish Butler and Spencer Newman scoring one a piece.
In Rugby Our 1st XV started their CNI campaign vs St Paul’s Collegiate last weekend. During the preseason the squad played a high tempo style of rugby, and this game was no different. At times we showed attacking flair and had St Paul’s on the back foot. Unfortunately, we did not capitilise on all our opportunities. Finishing with a close 20 to 17 loss.
On Saturday the E Grade team played against a strong and physical CHB team. After an evenly matched 1st half our squad showed immense character to score a 41-28 victory.
Saturday saw the 3rd XV in action for the first time in 2024. The Napier Boys Hostel team came out as winners 46 to 7. George Mossman scored our only try and was involved in some clever plays. Monty Stewart and Luke Wilkins also had strong games.
