SWIMMING
There has recently been a lot of activity on the swimming scene involving Lindisfarne swimmers with many impressive results. During the July holidays a number of Lindisfarne students competed for their clubs in the Hawkes Bay Winter Championships with many very good results. Most notable are the results of Marcus Sisam, Will Worthington-Thin and Sam Skidmore.
Marcus’ times in the 50m butterfly and breaststroke have also qualified him to swim in the NZ Short Course swimming champs.
Will Worthington-Thin competing as an under 14 year old won gold in the 50m & 100m freestyle and the 100m individual medley, then in the 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke and gained bronze in the 50m backstroke.
Sam Skidmore competing in the under 13 age group gained gold medals in 50m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle, second in 50m freestyle and 200m Individual medley and third placings in 50m butterfly and 100m backstroke. He was also a member of a winning relay team in the 200m freestyle relay and second placed medley relay team.
The Hawkes Bay Secondary School Swimming Champs were held this week in which Lindisfarne had 12 swimmers competing. The relays which always create the most excitement saw Lindisfarne placed 2nd in the 14/under medley relay and 1st in the freestyle relay and the two senior teams were placed 2nd and 4th in the medley relay and 2nd and 3rd in the freestyle relays.
The most notable of the individual results were:
In the U13’s: Elliot Wickham 3rrd in the 50m backstroke, Logan Tims 2nd in 50m butterfly
In the 14/15 year group: Will Worthington-Thin 3rd in 50m freestyle
In the 16 and over age group: Marcus Sisam 2nd in 50m freestyle, 3rd in 50m breaststroke, 2nd in 100m freestyle & 3rd in 50m butterfly. Zach Ebbett-Watt 2nd in 50m backstroke
