Sporting Endeavour

Through both team and individual sports, lifelong qualities of resilience, persistence, loyalty, sportsmanship, leadership and fair play are learned.

Balance matters, and every boy needs a physical outlet

Sport provides an important balance to academic life, promoting physical wellbeing while encouraging personal growth. Through sporting and outdoor experiences, students build friendships, embrace challenges and develop skills that will serve them long after they leave the College.

Success is measured by more than results. By working together, supporting one another and representing the College with pride, our students learn the value of commitment, teamwork and sportsmanship in everything they do.

With a wide range of summer and winter sports on offer, every student has the opportunity to get involved. Whether playing for enjoyment or striving for excellence, every boy is encouraged to participate, improve and belong.
Beyond the classroom

Through sport, boys build character, resilience and lifelong values that extend far beyond the playing field. Every challenge, victory and setback provides an opportunity to develop confidence, perseverance, leadership and respect.

Coaches that care

The key point of difference from other schools, is that all of our sports teams have a teacher aligned to them, either as coach or manager. This not only shows how committed our staff are to building all-round character but also proves that our staff recognise that relationship building is vital between student and teacher.

Each year, our young sportsmen enjoy considerable success in regional and national competitions in both team and individual sports. All of our top sports teams in the major codes play in Hawke's Bay secondary school and Hawke's Bay senior men's competitions.

Sporting opportunities and facilities

Traditional sports exchanges against Scots College, Rathkeale College, Wanganui Collegiate and St Paul's Collegiate are highlights of the sporting calendar, all year round. Lindisfarne sports teams tour many different countries including the USA, UK, China, Sri Lanka and Australia and we also host international touring teams. These fixtures and tours provide opportunities for team building, personal growth and memorable life experiences over and above the challenges of sport itself.

The College recognises individual and team sporting achievements at all levels throughout the year, whether competing for Lindisfarne College or for performances outside the College. Recognition is celebrated in a number of different ways: at weekly assemblies; on sports achievement boards; at the annual Sports Awards Dinner; with a photo in the Long Room or Sports Colours; and, for those who have represented New Zealand, with a Silver Fern for their blazer.

We have top-class sporting facilities at the College, including a large gymnasium, health and fitness training facility, over 12ha of training and playing fields, an all- weather floodlit multi-sports area, 25m outdoor swimming pool and 2.4km fitness course.

The College also has access to the nearby Hawke's Bay Regional Sports Park which has a world-class athletics track, designated sports fields and a hockey stadium with Tier 1 standard hockey turf.
