Lindisfarne College is a state-integrated boarding and day school for boys, located on a stunning 22ha park-like campus on the outskirts of Hastings in Hawke’s Bay.
Since opening in 1953, Lindisfarne College has had a clear vision: that the young men of Lindisfarne will be of good character and will go on to lead lives of success and significance.
Immersed in the Lindisfarne College culture of excellence, every boy is motivated to discover his strengths - whether it be in the classroom, on the sports field, on the stage or in serving others.
Success, however, is not just measured by what a Lindisfarne boy achieves, but how he chooses to live his life as a good son, brother and friend, and future colleague, husband, father.
The Four Cornerstones
At Lindisfarne we talk of our Four Cornerstones of learning. These are Academic Excellence, Sporting Endeavour, Cultural Participation and Christian Dimension.
It is these Four Cornerstones that provide the foundation of a balanced education that emphasises excellence. These cornerstones also empower ordinary boys to achieve extraordinary things and, above all, allow them to be the best that they can be.
Underpinning our Four Cornerstones is our commitment to building outstanding character in all our young men through leadership, mentoring, our pastoral care programme, team building and service-related activities.
Lindisfarne encourages students to participate in many different cultural activities from art, music and performance to Kapa Haka, debating and drama.
Music is strongly supported by talented music teachers who encourage the creative flair of students. There are also many extra-curricular activities in which students can show off their dramatic talents, including an annual production which is often in partnership with our sister school Iona College and local schools Woodford House and Hastings Girls' High School.
Sport is an essential part of student development at the College with participation in both summer and winter sport an integral part of school life. Students can choose a sport that interests them from a range of different options, which cater for different athletic abilities.
Each year our young sportsmen enjoy considerable success in regional and national competitions. All of our top sports teams consistently perform well and add to the pride the boys feel as members of the College.
Our NCEA results place us year after year amongst the top-performing boys’ schools in New Zealand, allowing many of our students to win scholarships and gain entry to leading universities both in New Zealand and overseas.
Our future-focussed teaching and learning environment takes a balanced approach to educational delivery and includes opportunities for all learning styles. Digital technology in all its forms is an important feature of our educational delivery and will enable students to leave us with an education relevant to the workforce of the 21st century.
Central to the College is our Special Character which is focused on three areas; religious studies, worship and pastoral care. Lindisfarne is affiliated to the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa-New Zealand and it is this Christian foundation that is the heart of the school's Special Character.
Through our well-established Christian education programme, as well as College Chapel services and assemblies, we are able to provide key opportunities for all of our students to explore their faith and purpose and to consider how they relate to their daily lives and those of others.
