Physical Education
Year 11 NCEA Level One
Outlined on this page are details relating to the whole year's work. The course contains six Achievement Standards, all of which are internally assessed, meaning that there is not an external examination at the end of the year. Each of the Achievement Standards varies in what is being taught and assessed and the weighting for each is outlined below:
* Achievement Standard 1.1 – Credits: Five
“Participate in Physical Activity, and describe how this influences health and well being”
* Achievement Standard 1.2 – Credits: Five
“Demonstrate knowledge of body structure and function in the performance of a physical activity”
* Achievement Standard 1.3 (Credits: Three) / 1.6 (Credits: Three)
“Demonstrate and describe ‘quality of movement’ in a physical setting”
* Achievement Standard 1.4 – Credits: Four
“Explore how the human body is portrayed in physical activity by the media”
* Achievement Standard 1.5 – Credits: Four
“Interpersonal communication”
Total number of credits: 24

STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE AND TOPICS COVERED
The course is structured into five modules, each of which concludes with the assessment of one of the Achievement Standards that is appropriate to the material that has been covered in that module of work.
Note: Not the entire course is practical, and that a lot of the work is covered in the classroom.
Module One: 1.3/1.6 “Athletics – Five Star Award”

- The unit will be taught in conjunction with a weight training programme and a gymnastics unit.
- The practicals will put into practice the theory covered in class.

BEYOND THIS COURSE
Levels Two and Three have been developed also, and the content of this material progress on to what is covered in these courses. Much of this material is extended at these levels, and whilst it is not absolutely essential to complete the Year 11 Level 1 course to be able to pursue Phys.Ed at a later stage it certainly is an advantage. At level 2 there are eight Achievement Standards, six at level 3.
