Boys are required to study General Science up to and including Year 10. All classes are taught in well appointed laboratories.
In the Senior school, there are a wide range of Science subjects to choose from. These subjects provide for those who will pursue further study in tertiary environments or those who choose to be employable members of the community upon leaving college.
It is advisable that Year 11 students choose at least one of the Level One NCEA Science subjects. Many boys who have a clear career
pathway will take 2 or 3 of the Science subjects:
* Agricultural and Horticultural Science
* Biology
* Chemistry
* Physics
* Science
These specialised classes continue through to Scholarship Level where previous boys have been extremely successful.
What each subject involves:
Agricultural and Horticultural Science: the study of livestock and crops, how they grow and their management. Boys make full use of the new greenhouse and garden plots and go on many field trips.
Biology: the study of living organisms—their life processes and requirments for life. This subject also has a series of field trips depending on the topics being covered and the level.
Chemistry: the study of properties and interaction of chemicals. There is a lot of practical, experimental work.
Physics: the study of matter and energy and the action of different forms of energy.
Science: a combination of Biology, Chemistry and Physics offered to Year 11 boys. This class offers those who are unsure of their future career an option which could lead into any of the other Science subjects in Year 12.
