New Rector appointed

Dear Parents and Friends,

It is with real pleasure that I write to inform you that the College Council has offered the position of Rector at Lindisfarne to Mr. Ken MacLeod. Mr. MacLeod is currently Associate Head of Studies at New Zealand's largest Independent School, St. Kentigern College, Auckland.

Mr. MacLeod in his role as Associate Headmaster, has had specific responsibilities in leading the teaching and learning and ICT management at our brother Presbyterian School. He has played a key role in leading the St. Kentigern's staff in the development of "Best Practice" for learning. St. Kentigern College is a leader in effective use of ICT in teaching, with all students having a laptop. In his eight years at St. Kentigern's, he has been involved in supporting the extensive co-curricular programme of the college, managing their 1st XV and organising the successful Presbyterian Quadrangular Rugby tournaments held in Auckland in 2006 and 2009. He is a keen sportsman, having coached and managed Rugby, Cricket, Tennis and Touch teams and is currently a Counties-Manukau Touch Rugby representative. He is strongly committed to the College's special character and values having a strong Christian faith himself.

Mr. MacLeod, gained his M.A. with Honours in History at the University of Canterbury and his Diploma in Educational Management at the Christchurch College of Education. He has had teaching experience in both the Independent and State sector. Having taught at Riccarton High School, where he has been both Head of the Social Science Faculty and Acting Deputy Principal.

Mr. MacLeod is married to Margo, who has qualified in the area of Horticulture, but who is currently a Sports Coordinator at St. Kentigern College. They have three teenage children, Hannah who has recently graduated from St. Kentigern's, Esther who in 2010 will be in Year 11 and Joshua who will attend Lindisfarne College as a year 9 student.

In the new year, we will prepare a more detailed synopsis of Mr. MacLeod, who will be taking up his position at Lindisfarne at the start of the second term 2010. The College Council recognises that Mr. MacLeod has a stated commitment to the core values of Lindisfarne. He has very high standards and educational expectations that he in turn models. Innovative and progressive in his educational thinking, we feel that students, staff, parents and our wider community will find Mr. MacLeod a positive, enthusiastic and approachable person to work with. We look forward to the opportunity of working with him, as Lindisfarne goes through a very exciting stage in its development. The College Council, would like to warmly welcome Mr. MacLeod and his family into the Lindisfarne community. We know that he is looking forward to working with us all and believe that he will find his time at Lindisfarne challenging but immensely rewarding.
